The Midwest Chapter/MLA’s 2013 “Free Lunch Award” is open for applications!  It’s super easy to apply for this award, and who doesn’t love free lunch?  Don’t wait!  Apply today!

The official name of the lunch is the Chapter Council Presents Sharing Roundtables Luncheon, which will be held during the Medical Library Association Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 5th.  See for information and application instructions.  The deadline for applications is March 27, 2013.

The Roundtable is not just a lunch, but a great learning and networking opportunity as well. You can select one of 24 topics and participate in an informal and lively discussion at your lunch table.

*Applicants must be Midwest Chapter/MLA Members. Not a member? Go here to join: *Applicants must be attending the MLA Annual Meeting in Boston AND pre-register for the Chapter Council Roundtables. (There are no on-site registrations allowed).

*Tickets are $42 and must be pre-paid by the applicant.

*The two winners will be reimbursed $42 each after the meeting.

Applications must include:

*Name, work or home address and email address or phone number.

*The specific roundtable that was selected.

*A paragraph or two describing “Why I Deserve a Free Lunch.”

Creativity and conciseness are encouraged! Entries are judged on humor, pathos and/or neediness.


Call for papers and posters! Midwest MLA ’13 in Peoria!

Call for Papers and Posters

The Program Committee invites proposals for contributed cheap generic cialis mastercard papers and posters for the joint Midwest Chapter MLA and HSLI Conference to be held October 5-8, 2013 in East Peoria, Illinois.  The conference theme is “Navigating a River of Information”.   We encourage you to take a literal or figurative (use your fertile imagination) approach to our theme.  You can highlight various topics such as teaching or education, administration, practical problem-solving, document collaborative efforts or outreach activities, describe innovative programs, or report on research in librarianship, resources or services.

Concurrent contributed papers will be presented on Sunday October 6, 2013 from 11am-12pm and on Monday October 7, 2013 from 10:30am-11:30am.

The posters will be presented Sunday October 6, 2013.  They will be available for viewing from 10am – 5pm with presenters present from 4pm-5pm.

For contributed paper proposals and poster proposals submit an abstract no longer than 250 words describing your paper or poster.

  • Include your name, position title, address, phone number and email address on all submissions.
  • Email your abstracts to Linda Feinberg (Lfeinberg at northshore dot org)
  • The deadline for abstract submission is Friday May 24thbefore the Memorial Day weekend.
  • Notifications of paper and poster acceptance will be made by early-mid June.

The Midwest Chapter Professional Practice Committee is again awarding monetary prizes to the best RESEARCH papers and posters.  [UPDATE: The Professional Practice Committee asks that you indicate your interest in competing for the Research Award when you submit your abstract.]

Spring board meeting Apr. 26

Our Midwest MLA spring Board Meeting will be held on Friday, April 26 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare.

The room rate is $132.  Shuttle (it’s easily walkable too through the tubes) service to and from the airport is free-of-charge.  Rooms are reserved under “Midwest MLA” and they’ll be getting a list of names as well.
