Summer Doldrums

It is REALLY quiet here in the Reference Office. Many of the other reference librarians are off to Chicago for the 2009 ALA Conference. We who are "left behind" got a kick out of yesterday's posting on A Librarian's Guide to Etiquette. We too are enjoying the "peace and tranquility" of a nearly empty office. There is a plenty on the ALA conference schedule of interest to me but I'm saving up this year's travel funds for the 2009 Midwest ChapterMLA Conference in October, of course! And I am looking forward with great expectations to attending MLA '10 in Washington, D.C. It has been 10 years since I've been to MLA, so it's about time! As far as I can tell, there isn't a web page on MLANET for the conference, just the Call for Participation. I'm all psyched to "Reflect & Connect."

Speaking of MLA, yesterday's MLA Focus included information on how MLA members can get FREE video of all the MLA '09 plenary sessions. I tried this and it works swell. It takes a little time since one has to set up an account to "purchase" the videos from MLA. Links to download the videos are sent to you in your e-mail. So right now I'm listening to fellow Midwest Chapter member Michael Homan delivering his Janet Doe Lecture. Thanks MLA! This is one really great benefit of membership.
