Heartbreak Hotel?

Cheer up, you’re not on Lonely Street just yet! But rooms at the Westin Downtown Cleveland are going fast! In fact, there are no more rooms left for Friday night, October 5. And, the group rate for the conference will only be honored until September 21.

If you are having trouble finding accommodations, please don’t wait – there is a lot going on in Downtown Cleveland, including a Cleveland Browns versus Baltimore Ravens Game on Sunday, October 7!

Below is a Google Map with other hotels nearby the Westin, which may have rooms. So as The King of Rock & Roll sang in ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, “Although it’s always crowded, you can still find some room . . . ”

Thank you, thank you, very much!

Disclaimer: We have not visited any of the hotels in the map below and cannot recommend one over another. Please do your research so that you have the best stay possible!

Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who?

There are several opportunities for you to support the Scholarship Fund of the Midwest Chapter of the Medical Library Association by taking part in one of our FUNdraisers! We will have a Silent Auction where you can bid on items donated by Chapter members, and you can purchase fun ribbons for your name tag. Then, donate by voting for your favorite “Chapter Owl.”

What is a Chapter Owl?? At last year’s Conference in Michigan, we chose the owl as our Chapter Critter because it is found in all Midwestern states and symbolizes wisdom as well as mystery. This year you get to vote on the type of owl that best represents the Chapter. There are six choices of owl, but each one is found in all the nine Midwest Chapter member states. Here are your choices: Great Horned Owl, Eastern Screech-Owl, Barn Owl, Northern Saw Whet, Long-Eared Owl, and the Barred Owl. Go to this link to take a look at and learn about each one.

Here are the Voting Instructions:

  • Online Voting & Donating Time Period runs from September 17th through October 5th at 5 pm. Votes submitted after 5 pm on October 5th will not be counted.
  • Use the Midwest MLA online donation form at: https://mcmla45.wildapricot.org/page-1745931
  • Votes are $1.00 each. Enter the total amount you wish to donate for votes, i.e. $10.00 for 10 votes.
  • In the Comments field enter the name of the owl for which you want to vote.
  • Complete the form and pay.

Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who? We really wanna know!

Walk This Way!

Morning walks on Saturday, Sunday, & Monday

Join us for “Walk This Way” morning walks! See historic landmarks and other popular sites around Cleveland with a different route each morning.  Meet in The Westin lobby at 6 am near the ‘large head’ and look for a “Walk This Way” sign or t-shirt.  Walking begins promptly at 6:15 am. We will be walking just under 2 miles for 45-50 minutes at approximately 2.4 mph.  Not an overly fast pace, but not a sightseeing stroll either.

Feel free to walk only as much of the route as you like! (Or, walk with your own group at another time of day.)

Take note:
  • Good walking shoes recommended.
  • Sidewalks/pavement used on all routes, as available. Uneven pavement on all routes.  Walk cautiously.
  • Construction areas on 2 of 3 routes.
  • Due to morning darkness, consider wearing reflective gear or bringing headlamps or small flashlights.
  • Walks will take place in light rain.  Limited umbrellas will be available, or use your personal rain gear.
  • Walks will be cancelled if heavy rain.
  • Sat Oct 6: E. 9th St. to Prospect (MAP)
  • Sun Oct 7: E. 9th St. to Huron (MAP)
  • Mon Oct 8: North Coast Harbor (MAP)

Maps will also be available as print copies at the conference Hospitality Table. (Click here for a PDF of All Walking Maps)
