The Midwest Chapter/MLA Awards and Scholarships Committee is pleased to announce establishment of the chapter’s new Professional Development Award, a $500 stipend to help support first-time attendance at the chapter’s annual meeting. As of 2007, two Professional Development Awards will be offered, in addition to the two Annual Meeting Scholarships the chapter has traditionally offered to library science students and recent graduates.
To qualify for the new award, applicants must be a current Midwest Chapter member and a resident of one of chapter’s nine states. In addition, applicants must have: a masters degree in library/information science; at least 3 years experience as a professional librarian; and never attended a Midwest Chapter annual meeting.
Applications must include: a current resume or vitae; a letter from an administrator supporting the applicant’s need for financial aid; and a statement describing what the applicant hopes to gain by attending the Midwest Chapter’s annual meeting.
Recipients will be asked submit a brief article about their conference experience for MIDLINE.
Applications for the 2007 Professional Development Awards must be received by August 17, 2007. Award recipients will be notified by August 31, 2007.
The Midwest Chapter’s 2007 meeting will be a joint meeting with the Midcontinental Chapter and is scheduled for October 12-16 in Omaha, Nebraska.
