The Kentucky Medical Library Association sponsored an excellent program entitled "Librarians: Let's Escape from the Box" on Tuesday, April 29th at Hospice of the Bluegrass in Lexington, Kentucky. Diane Wolf, MLS, AHIP, of Wolf Information Experts gave a wonderful, enthusiastic presentation incorporating her experiences while on the library staff of Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delware.
Ms. Wolf discussed which non-clinical customers should be particularly targeted for the library's services, how to find evidence to support both clinical and non-clinical decision-making, librarian participation on hospital committees, starting clinical medical librarian services, relationship marketing, and practical time management techniques. In the afternoon, small groups of attendees put together proposals for new library services which they shared with the entire group. Everyone in attendance left with good ideas for projects they could implement in their own facilities.
Susan Byers, Librarian at Hospice of the Bluegrass, was a wonderful hostess for the meeting. Many in attendance were able to see her extensive library (only one of two hospice libraries in the entire country) for the first time. A brief business meeting conducted by President Anne Sabetta was held following lunch.
