President’s Message

Hello, Midwest Chapter/MLA–

I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. My thoughts go out to everyone facing additional health and financial challenges during the pandemic.

Our 2020 Conference Co-Chairs, Lisa Habegger and Erin Foster, and our Annual Meetings Chair, Liz Weinfurter, have provided critical leadership as our Chapter
navigates the public health and financial implications of COVID-19 on our 2020 Annual
Meeting. Throughout April, they led contingency planning meetings attended by
members of the Executive Board, the 2020 Conference Planning Committee, and
representatives from other Chapters making similar decisions about conferences. These
meetings helped us explore the available options and our Chapter’s financial liabilities.

Another important factor in the decision is the feedback you, our members, provided via
the poll that was open April 30-May 7. We will be in touch with updates about the 2020
Annual Meeting soon. Please join me in thanking Lisa, Erin, and Liz for their
outstanding work that goes well beyond what they signed up for!

Since shifting to telecommuting, my work day is much more sedentary. I miss walking to
meetings – whether across campus or down the hall to the conference room. I have tried
to make up for this by completing light desk workouts when I attend webinars and large
informational meetings. This has the added benefit of helping me avoid the slippery
slope of responding to just one quick email. After the session ends, I take a few minutes
to reflect and jot down the key takeaways for future reference.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or ideas for the Chapter.
Stay well!
