Greetings Midwest Chapter Colleagues!
Winter in the Midwest is always an adventure. I think that I can safely say that most of our chapter members are looking forward to spring after this year’s winter weather!
Spring will be a busy time for us in the Midwest Chapter. The chapter’s Executive Board will be meeting in Ohio on Friday, March 25 in the Canton Room of the Cambria Suites Akron-Canton Airport. Your elected officers and committee chairs are busy preparing for the meeting. The agenda is packed. The work of the Advocacy Committee, the membership survey, a bylaws update to establish the new Emeritus membership category, and more will be up for discussion. ALL chapter members are invited to the Executive Board meeting. If you are interested in attending, let me know!
And, of course, in May the Midwest will be hosting our national conference, MLA ’11. Many of our chapter members have been working hard on the pre-conference preparations, including the hometown Local Assistance Committee. Chapter member Eileen Stanley has a special invitation to Midwest Chapter members later on in this newsletter. I’ve been reading the MLA ’11 Official Blog to keep up on the latest info about the conference. Have you?
We are especially pleased that chapter member Ruth Holst will be presiding at the meeting. In my role as your chapter president, I will be welcoming the assembled during the Welcome at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 15. I’ll be using this as my excuse to purchase a nice new outfit. Someone snap a photo please!
On another MLA note, congratulations to three of our chapter members who will be assuming elected positions in MLA at the conclusion of MLA ’11. Jane Blumenthal, University of Michigan, will become president-elect. Check out the exclusive MIDLINE interview with Jane below. Michelle Kraft of the Cleveland Clinic Alumni Library will begin a three year term on the MLA Board of Directors. Melissa Rethlefsen of the Mayo Clinic Libraries will be serving on the 2011 Nominating Committee. Kudos also to Mayo Clinic’s J. Michael Homan who will be awarded the Carla J. Funk Governmental Relations Award at the MLA Awards Ceremony & Luncheon on Monday, May 16.
Are you looking for an exciting, fun way to provide valuable service to the Midwest Chapter? We are still searching for a new editor for MIDLINE. Please consider using your literary skills to keep our Midwest Chapter members informed. Contact Communications Chair Jean Gudenas to volunteer today!
Stay warm and dry!
